BIOGRAPHY

 

As an assistant photographer in Paris, Pierre DEMAIN became fascinated by the rise and then the explosion of advertising. This led him to a long career in the communication industry, while simultaneously nurturing a personal photographic project that he would bring to life in 2023.

His life in advertising revealed a simple truth: what matters is not what we are exposed to, but what remains within us.
One word stands out: trace.
It would become the founding concept of all his work.

Objective in the advertising world—because it can be measured—the trace is, for Pierre DEMAIN, fundamentally subjective and yet inescapable in our intimate lives.

 

Pierre DEMAIN practices photography in its purest form: a light, a frame. Minimalist in his approach, he works exclusively with natural light, without effects, without software, without retouching—all his images are created in-camera.

Be attentive: you’ll often see several images within a single image.

 

The man who once dreamed of being a painter likes to say he uses his cameras like paintbrushes, and often wonders whether he’s painting photographs or photographing paintings!

 

His favorite subject is the face.

Because we don’t know what our real face is.
